My fitness journey

Hi,

I've been doing sports all my life, even if I was overweight most of it. I'm kind of overweight sports guy, that manages to do heavy lifting, and endure a lot of physical pain. A couple of posts ago, I described what I eat and train on a normal week day, and you can check it in here.

Like mentioned, since I was young, 6 to be more accurate, I did some kind of sports, starting with skiing, tennis, basketball, and football. At 10, I found one of the sports that I liked to practice and was good at, namely water polo.

I enjoy also today playing it, even if I'm not at that level what I was when I was young. Managed to represent my country with 16 which was the highlight of my career. With 18 I had to decide between studying and sports, and I decided studying, as it will take me on a longer trip in life. With sports, I could play at a professional level till something around 40, given no injuries. Well, I had injuries in my twenties and my weight was always in a yo-yo mood. 8 years ago I had 25 kg less than I have now, where I could lift the same weight as today.

Beside water-polo, I managed to play pro rugby and in parallel some martial arts as a complementary sport, to keep my mind and spirit sharp.

As of today, I go 3 times a week to the gym and 1 or 2 times a week swimming.
I don't do much cardio, and don't go for long runs. I do sprints, to have the high intensity training.
What I do is, weights, resistance training. My muscles are getting into shape and I get more force.

In December of last year, I've changed completely my nutrition, and this would be the changes:

  • no more sugar
  • 8-hour eating window
  • no more alcohol - which is tough due to the business dinners
  • most grass feed meat
  • spinach and broccoli on a daily basis
  • 3 eggs a day, at least
  • 3 hours before going to bed, no eating and no caffeine
  • where possible, bio certified food
  • 2 times a week fish

These changes are to keep a healthy level of testosterone, as this decreases with age, and I'm the turn point.

Some other measures beside nutrition that I need to implement are:

  • enough sleep (here I do sleep way too little)
  • lower stress, which is so hard this day
  • meditate - just have a break of 10 minutes a day helps - try not to think about anything

I'm aware that our bodies and mind are always under construction, and what we feed them, they will give out. Give your body the best, and it will reward you for your full life.

How about you? How is your fitness journey going?
