Week 1: Flash Fiction
First Creative Writing class
During our first class, we were asked to define what Creative Writing is and I think that it is a type of writing with no restrictions. For me, being creative is writing is something that almost anyone can achieve because creativity has no limits.
After that, we were asked to write a very short story in just a sentence. That triggers the whole class with tons of creative stories.
What I wrote;
Once upon a time, there were 3 mice that were blinded after a terrible accident but that did not stop them from casting as actors in the movie Shrek.
I wrote random things that I thought that everyone could relate to. And then when the whole class was asked to share their writings, it was so joyous as it was the first time we’ve seen each other’s creative side in writing.
After the whole sharing session ended, our lecturer, Madam Wong Lind Say explained on what is the true definition of Creative Writing and we had a whole new type of discussion when she gave us an example of flash fiction written by Ernest Hemingway. The writing goes like this; “For sale: baby shoes, never worn”. We were intrigued by the example given and there were tons of questions regarding the sentence. We had to be stopped by Madam when we kept asking questions.
