Friday gave the corridor two living men. Saturday gave it two more.
Lu Haitao, 225 metres inside Upper Trishuli-1
The Nepal Army said a joint team with foreign rescuers pulled a Chinese national, Lu Haitao (also written Luhaitao), alive from Audit Tunnel 4 at the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project.
He was found about 225 metres inside. The Army said his health is being assessed and the search continues. Pictures show him walking with an arm over each rescuer, hands caked in mud, then on a helicopter with a medic.
This is not the same tunnel as Friday’s rescue. Sanjay Sah and Kabir Maharjan came out of Trishuli-3A. Haitao came out of Trishuli-1. Three living workers in two days, two plants.
Some early wires mixed the sites. The Army statement is the one to keep: Trishuli-1, Audit Tunnel 4, 225 metres, Saturday afternoon.
About 900 hydropower workers are still listed missing across a dozen projects. Hundreds may still be underground. Saturday’s find is why those tunnels are not being written off.
Chandika Kumari Shrestha, fourth floor, Betrawati
The second Saturday rescue was not a tunnel.
An Armed Police Force team led by Inspector Suman Bik pulled Chandika Kumari Shrestha, reported as 64, alive from the upper floor of a four-storey house in Betrawati, Bidur Municipality-10, Nuwakot. The building had been half-buried. Neighbours heard sounds. The team dug. She came out after 10–11 days.
Her husband, Anand Shrestha, told Ratopati she is 55. The Kathmandu Post gave her age as 64. Both describe the same woman and the same house. After she was out, they gave her water. She drank it. APF DSP Shailendra Thapa said she could speak.
That detail matters. A person who can drink and talk after a week and a half in a wrecked house is not a rumour. It is why crews are still breaking into debris that looks empty.
The death list did not pause
Saturday figures circulating with the rescues:
- about 1,344 dead in Nepal (Friday sheets were around 1,295)
- about 4,898 missing
- more than 13,000 rescued
- missing lists still include hundreds of children in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, and hundreds of foreigners
China’s Gyirong / Tibet side has been reported this week in the range of 21–31 dead and about 530 missing. Combined, the disaster is past 1,300 confirmed dead and well past 5,000 missing.
Ripple’s $300,000 through Mercy Corps
Ripple pledged USD 300,000 to World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps for Nepal and Tibet flood relief — meals, water and sanitation, not a direct cheque to the Prime Minister’s fund.
Mercy Corps has worked in Nepal since 2005. By 1 September it was sending food kits toward about 300 families in hard-hit Nuwakot, plus hygiene and baby-care kits. World Central Kitchen’s restaurant partners were serving meals in Rasuwa and Nuwakot from the first days.
This is a different pipe from Solana’s $166,946.50 auction toward the official fund, and from NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s $10 million pledge. Ripple’s cash is meant to buy food and clean water through two NGOs already on the ground.

Today a Chinese worker walked out of Trishuli-1, and a 64-year-old woman walked out of a buried house in Betrawati.
The death toll is still climbing. The missing list is still longer than the recovered list. But the argument that nobody is left alive is weaker than it was on Thursday.
