Wildflower series - Ruikbossie

in #flowers7 years ago

The name Ruikbossie (Afrikaans) means aromatic little bush and the leaves are quite strong smelling if crushed, although the smell isn't unpleasant, as many aromatic plants can be. This would go well in a pot pourri. Highly aromatic plants often contain volatile compounds that can be used in herbal medicine although I am not aware of any medicinal use for this particular plant.

These flowers are particularly difficult to photograph because they are so small, the slightest breeze makes the stems tremble and blurs the shot.

It's also very difficult to macro more than one flower because the different heights of the flowers ensure that some of them are going to be out of focus.

These flowers even if they're small is really beautiful specially when they're bunch of them in one place. I usually see this flower but never known the name. Thanks for sharing this info with us @nikv.

Did not know they were used in pot pourri, so many little flowers in the veld we know so little or nothing about.

Hello Joan!
I don't know if they have been used as pot pourri, but they could be. I love finding and learning about all the little things

How tiny are they? About 2cm?

Much smaller than that. About 7mm

They are pretty ground covers and remind me of a type of daisy we have.
