So I actually came across the name origin! The first "sighting" was around Glastonbury, CT. "Glawackus" is a pseudo-portmanteau of the town name and "wacky", then they added "-us" to the end of the name to give it a Latin-ish vibe.

That's awesome you found the nomen origin. I'm dubious on why they used wacky as a root for the name, but maybe the word has had some meaning drift since then.
