I can teach you how to make a bouquet for your girlfriend

Giving flowers is always a detail that works, whatever the occasion. However, flower bouquets from florists can be expensive, do not carry the flowers that we would like or not be very personal. For these reasons, making your own bouquet of flowers is always much more personal, either for you or to give as you have done it with all your love and effort.

The problem is that at first glance, making a bouquet of flowers can seem like something very easy: pick up a few flowers, put them together and tie them together. And no, on the contrary, to make a bouquet or a bouquet requires knowing how to choose what type of flowers or foliage will conform and a technique to look uniform, original and beautiful. However, this does not have to be a difficult task.

We are going to give you below several tricks to make a bouquet of flowers easy and colorful with the most common technique for making bouquets that is that of spiral bouquets. It even serves to make bridal bouquets. Remember that it does not have to be a bouquet of natural flowers. If you prefer it to last longer, it can be a bouquet of artificial flowers that you can also make yourself:

To make a simple but beautiful bouquet, we recommend the following materials:

  • 5 types of flowers (3-6 stems each)
  • Foliage (15 stems of foliage
  • Rope of esparto or raffia
  • Scissors, to be able to be gardening

If you do not know what flowers to choose for your bouquet, you can take a look at the flower bouquets of online florists such as Floraqueen, where you'll find lots of different flower and foliage combinations and the names of the flowers in each bouquet. You can also find ideas of bouquets for each occasion, and it is not the same as a bouquet of flowers for a couple, a bouquet for a mother, for a work colleague or to decorate your room.

Here are two tables with the names of the most durable flowers and the most common foliage for bouquets:

Some of the flowers that last the longest:

Anthurium, Azucenas, Calas, Gladiolos, Liliums, Margaritas, Rosas (recomendable quitarles las espinas), Srelitzias (Ave del paraíso)

Follages recommended for bouquets or flower arrangements:

Silver poplar, Anthurium, Asparagus plumosus-meyeri-pyramidalis, Aspidistra, Cortaderas (handle with gloves, because they cut), Dracaena massangeana, Eucalyptus (variant cinerea-parvifolia-robusta is the most common), Fatsia japonica, Iris, Leucadendron, Monstera deliciosa . Phormium tenax, Pistacia Lentiscus, Retama, Rumohra adiantiformis-leahterleaf, Salix-Sauce, Thuja, Buxus sempervirens.

Once you have chosen flowers and foliage, you have to condition them (clearing the stems of excess leaves or thorns) and classify the flowers in individual piles to see the colors and sizes clearly:

Flowers of this bouquet: Flower of the widow (Pins), Roses, Cresta de gallo rosa (Celosia), Calas and Astrantia.

Organizing a hand-tied bouquet requires being concentrated, doing it all at once and being methodical and patient, so make sure it's a good time. Choose the main flower for the center of the bouquet. Ideally, it should be a pretty large flower. In this case, the rose is the ideal. Add 3 or 4 leaves of foliage in a circle around this first flower. The flower should sit just below the leaf tips of the foliage. Hold the bundle at the point of union with the left hand if you are right-handed and with the right if you are left-handed.

The point of union of the stems determines the size of the branch: if you hold the stems below, the flower arrangement will be looser and the stems will be longer. If the point of union is higher, you will create a more compact bouquet.

Choose another different flower and add it to the bunch in the place where your thumb is placed. The easiest and most colorful way to prepare a bouquet is to follow the technique of the spiral flower bouquet. To do this, insert the stem at an inclined angle so that the end of the stem points towards your body.

Place a flower from each around the foliage, turning the bouquet slightly in the same direction after adding a new flower. Each of the flowers should be slightly lower than the tips of the leaves of the foliage, just as we did with the central flower (in this case it was the rose).

Cut the longer stems that stand out from the rest if you notice that the bouquet is too heavy for you. We cut them too short, since later we will cut all the stems to adjust them properly. Add another circle of foliage around the bouquet at an angle, turning the bouquet slightly as you work. Now the spiral that forms the stems should be noticed much more.

Look at the bouquet from above to check the position of the flowers and the balance of the colors. If it seems appropriate, organize the following sequence of flowers, placing them a little underneath around the sides so that it begins to have a dome shape.

The last flowers and foliage that you have left place them by placing the stems at an angle so that they are still lower than the previous ones.

Twist the rope around the top of the bouquet, just above your hand, and tie the ends with a knot. Cut the excess rope.

Cut the tips of the stems in a straight line so that the bouquet can stand in a vase. This is also important so that all the stems are in contact with the water. A well-arranged bouquet of flowers (like the one in the photo) should stand on its own, as the spiral stems give it stability. Now you can place the bouquet in a vase, or if it is for a gift, you can keep it in cool, cool water. We recommend waiting at the last moment to wrap it and tie it with ribbon to give as a present.
