Cooking At Home: Beijing Roast Duck

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Hello guys. Today I would like to show you how you can prepare tasty Beijing-style roast duck at home. This famous traditional Chinese dish is simple to prepare, however, you will need to start the preparation a day in advance as the trick to creating the right taste is to leave the duck in the sauce mixture overnight.

1.5kg whole duck

5 sliced onions

50ml soy sauce

1 sliced lemon

90g of honey

Hoisin sauce

500ml of water

Mix the water, lemon, soy sauce and honey in a frying pan and bring to boil. Simmer for fifteen minutes at low heat, then allow it to cool down. Coat the duck with the sauce several times. Place the coated duck into the baking tray and leave in the fridge overnight. After removing the duck from the fridge the following day, pre-heat the oven to 220C. You will need a roasting pan with a set of wire racks on top of it. Add 0.5l of water into the pan. Place the duck on the wire rack and roast for fifteen minutes. Bring the heat down to 180 C and roast for another one hour. The duck is ready when the skin becomes crispy. Serve with onions and hoisin sauce. Bon Appetit!
