Preparing for Slavic Christmas
Hello Friends!
So these days I was preparing for beautifull things for Old Rite Christmas... a lot of things.
Note: Christmas for Old Orthodox Christians is celebrated on January 7th. The Julian calendar or old style is offset by 13 days against the official calendar. The Romanian Orthodox Church passed the new calendar on October 1, 1924.
My family roots are from Russia and we are being called Lipoveni. I was born in Romania like my mother and father and we always celebrated Old Rite Christmas with song, cookies, gifts and going to church.
This time is my second year that I can celebrate here on Steemit and welcome you to my family!
We start by making some Cheese pancakes Or Papanasi In Romanian Language:
The ingredients are:
- 250 g cows cheese
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1 egg piece
- 1 teaspoon of sodium bicarbonate
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1 frying oil
- 300 ml of sour cream
- 1 cup jam to taste
Preparation:
First you take the eggs are beat well in a bowl. Add the precious bicarbonate and a teaspoon of vinegar.
Then you add the cottage cheese and mix well. Then add the flour gradually until it is incorporated, mixing with your hand.
Now from the resulting dough, shape a kind of cocoons with a hole in the middle and an equal number of balls from the same hull.
And in a deep and large pan that does not stick, put the oil in the hot pan (or warm pan be carefull here !)
Fry both the donuts and the balls until they are nicely browned on each side.
And voila!
But wait!!!
Now they just look like donuts ...The important thing you need to know is how to eat them:
you mix the papanasi with sour cream and jam ( to your own pleasure)
Sorry no photo here because we ate most of them...ALL OF THEM!
Today is 6 of january and it is just like spring outside and we already have some clopotei (Campanula napuligera) or bluebell in english (only thing is that mine are white not blue...)
This clopotel is the first one of this year and you can see a second one making his debut in this world.
We received a Fir tree (Christmas tree) and we started to prepare it for tomorow!
But as soon as we fished preparing our tree something strange happend!
One branche became heavy and something big appered and after a short check also inside the tree something peculiar materialised out of thin air.
