How not to make a pig of yourself during the holidays ;)

in #food7 years ago

For many of us holidays mean magic time. We don’t indulge ourselves with yummy dishes on ordinary days. That is why we try to compose the feast menu as exceptional and perfectly tasty as we can. Yet sometimes we go too far with the amount of delicacies that are present on the plates. The table is laden with food and we long to try this and that. However, our body is not ready for such an experience. We at times make it adopt and digest completely unwonted volume and (often) kind of food. This may result in malfunction of our body and quite unpleasant consequences. Let’s try to find the way to stay healthy and satisfied at the same time during our “sweet” holidays.

1. Don’t let yourself to be tempted by food

Probably there will be lots of opportunities to eat and drink more than you are used to. Family get-togethers, “must-visit” workplace parties, friend meetings… Try to choose wisely the events and keep your head cool. After all, your company’s spirits are on the map and no food mustn’t spoil them.

2. Eat a bit of everything

Don’t have your fingers in every pie literally. Though ones have prepared lots of delicacies and are encouraging the guests to eat their fill, to eat like a horse is a bad idea. Indulging a little won’t hurt. Enjoy holidays, treat everything in small portions and you will relish meal without FOMO.

3. Eat a healthful diet during your day before the party

Some people make up their minds not to eat the whole day before the dinner, so as to be able to eat as much as possible. Don’t come to the party as hungry as a bear. All you get will be satiety, indigestion and complete absence of spirits. You should have a bite before the dinner.  High-protein snacks such as yogurt, fruit and vegetables will prevent you from getting hungry by the time the party arrives. They will help you feel fuller and you can avoid the temptation to overeat.

4. Swap unhealthy products by useful and tasty substitutions

For instance, give preference to whole-wheat bread instead of white; substitute a beef steak by lower-fat meat or ordinary cakes by gingerbread. It will help keep you feeling fuller for longer.

5. Burn excess calories after overeating

Even if you became allured by unhealthy goodies, go to the dance floor instead of lying on the couch or take off for a brick walk after a big meal. In this way you boost your digestion and you will experience relief from indulging.

Hope with these simple tips your feast will be remembered only by joy and your health. I wish you to be full of beans on New Year’s Eve and remember: you are what you eat.
