It was still early when I arrived in Purwokerto. Exiting the station, I opened my map and looked for my accommodation. It was about a kilometer and a half away. That was very close for me, so I decided to walk from the station.
I decided to do so because I wanted to enjoy and get to know the atmosphere of this quiet little town. About five hundred meters into the street, I came across a street vendor selling food. There were mortars and pestles, vegetables, and rice cakes with crackers. I assumed they were selling gado-gado (Indonesian traditional salad). So I ordered one to eat on the spot. I ordered it medium spicy because it was still early.

Sure enough, the vendor ground the peanut sauce, which consisted of fried peanuts, brown sugar, chilies, and who knows what else. Then he asked if I wanted rice or rice cakes. I replied with rice cakes.
