Hot jalopeno pizza experiment + cinnamon rolls
Happy early Saturday morning bloggers. 11 AM on Saturday is early, right? Lets forget the markets and jump right into my recent pizza experiment with @raili.
I've never been a fan of pizzas - tried tens and tens of them, thick-based, thin-based, bacon, chicken, mushrooms, salami - the pizzeria pizzas all suck. Thats the truth. Even tried pizza in Italy - i was warned not to come back without trying pizza, gelato and pasta - the pizza there was just as basic and tasteless as here.
So, let's do our own, right! Let it be noted right away, that i'm far from a good cook or good food photographer so bear with me :)
Every component can probably be bought from your local supermarket, so one short trip later, we lay out the ingredients and bring out the dramatic tool of pizzerias - the rolling pin.
Not wanting to make our own dough, we opt for the frozen yeast dough sheets. If they are frozen stiff but you need to eat like NOW, then pour some boiling water into a bowl, cover the bowl with a chopping board and lay the dough over there to warm up rapidly.
No time to waste, hunger is attacking from all sides. Roll the dough, cover with tomato sauce. We decided to make half of the pizza with ham cubes and half with rolled bacon , so cover half with those ham cubes and sprinkle pineapple pieces all over the board.
Chop jalopeno - but don't overdo it. Jalopeno gives the pizza a delicious side-taste, but heating it in the over kind of brings out the real hotness of it. Cover the pizza with bacon rolled into small rings - not cubes or pieces - it will taste and feel much better this way. Cover the whole pizza with grated cheese. If you want, you can add mushrooms or a little bit of onion - we skipped those. Bam! into the oven and the kitchen is almost imemdiately filled with nice odours.
What now? If you have some dough left like us, you can make some cinnamon rolls. It's easy and they only need to cook for a few minutes.
Roll the dough, cover with a mixture of sugar and cinnamon (premixed), add some pieces of butter, for a better taste. Roll the dough and chop like maki sushi. Throw it in the oven but don't go far - these don't need much to be ready.
Poof. Need. To. Eat. Now. Luckily, the pizza is ready:
Let is cool down a bit before cutting into it. Serve with vodka and cold beer. Perhaps some healthy snacks on the side, to balance things out ;)
Enjoy!
