How to Happily Get Stuffed on Tomatoes!

I remember once when I was a small child in England, we used to have this GIANT market every Saturday and when it was over a lot of the fruit and veg vendors would throw their goods on a heap. Myself and 2 friends would wait for the market owners to go, then run as fast as possible over the field and grab multiple crates of tomatoes and cucumbers!

Boy I'm serious when I say life was good back then! We would find a hiding place, stuff ourselves with tomatoes and cucumbers, lay in the sun and rest with big smiles on our faces.

That was the late 70's, I was 5, and to be honest I can't even believe that I was alive back then, it seems so long ago.

Looking back life was like a film, coppers would walk the housing estates just to make sure everything was ok and everything was ok. The streets were full of kids playing soccer and other street games.

Ingredients

Things you'll need:

  • 6 Giant Tomatoes (We grow our own and I really suggest that everyone even you start to do this, it's changed our lives and is so easy to manage, even without a garden! You can use pots.)
  • 75 grams venere rice
  • 75 grams jasmine rice
  • 1 cup pitted black olives
  • 1 cup artichokes in oil
  • 1/2 spoon spirulina or other natural green colour
  • 2 spoons pesto (add more for a richer taste)
  • Salt and pepper

Camera was broke, so these pics were taken with my old note 3 #yourvisionisnotblurred

Directions

The How to Make Part:

  1. Boil the rice separately, start by boiling the venere rice as it takes a lot longer, at least 30 minutes (but it's worth it!). Jasmine rice usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes, so for a much better tasting dish be sure to keep an eye on the clock, timing is key.(cooking the rice correctly will make all the difference).
  2. Pre-heat the oven at 200°
  3. Once you have boiled both kinds of rice, place the Jasmine in a bowl, add the spirulina, pesto, salt and pepper, stir and set aside.
  4. Finely chop the olives, artichokes and place them in a bowl with your venere rice, add salt and pepper and stir well.
  5. Chop the heads of the tomatoes with a bread knife as not to squash them (Remember they're hot so be careful!).
  6. Remove the inside of the tomato with a spoon and a knife if needed, paying attention not to break them (Pretend you're a zen master, be patient and gentle)
  7. Fill 3 tomatoes with green rice and 3 with black rice, close the tops and place in the oven for 20 min.
  8. Make a photo and show others your excellent cooking skills before chomping down on a seriously good dish.
  9. If it's warm outside, eat this cold and it shall cool you down. If it's cool then, this is perfect to warm you up from the inside if eaten hot.

Just remember: Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad :)

All recipes and photos are made by us. Us as in, 2 plant based freaks that basically cook all day long and wonder why the scales are going up in numbers! But we deal with it, in fact we blame it all on you!

Thanks for your time my fellow Steematarians, if you liked the recipe, please feel free to show some love. If you don't like tomatoes and you would rather fry cockroaches for lunch and dye your hair all colours of the rainbow, then don't give up hope, I shall be posting recipes daily :)

This looks really good @govegan! And agreed everyone should try growing there own tomatoes and other produce if they haven't already :) It's really not that difficult and I'm convinced its the most practical way to get organic produce. Cheers!

LoL, loved the Knowledge vs Wisdom tip !!

Thanks Yvon! and thanks again for reading it! Looking forward, getting to know a few people, so nice to meet you!

Wow, they look delicous ! Will have to try and make them. Thanks for sharing :)

Cheers Warren, happy to meet a fellow Vegan always!

Thanks @govegan! Am following you and me too always happy to share with fellow vegans :)

Thanks for recipe! Will definitely try some time!

This sounds delicious. You photo, even with a broke camera is great :) So nice to find more and more vegan, plantbased bloggers on steemit! I am new to the steemitworld, but I am happy for all the inspiration to be found!

I have read your other posts as well and wow the charocal bread, so cool! Reminds me of purple ketchup. When you are so use to seeing something in a specific color, you associate certain tastes to it, so when you change the color, but the taste is more or less the same - it is like tasting something for the first time all over again.

I also read your article about about stealing. I think you are totally right about it not being okay. It is okay to draw inspiration from others, but to deliberately take someone elses work, thats shady. But as you say, the past will come back to haunt you. We can't keep track of it all, so I guess we have to put our faith in Karma.

Anyway, thanks for the wonderful posts and inspiration. I will be following you and all of your delicious recipes :)
