How to make a fondant cake

in #food7 years ago

have you seen a cake that is covered with fondant?

A fondant is Fondant icing, is an edible icing used to decorate or sculpt cakes and pastries. It is made from sugar, water, gelatin, and glycerol. It does not have the texture of most icings; rolled fondant is akin to stiff clay, while poured fondant is a thick liquid (based on wikipedia)

I was once attended a training on how to create a fondant cake and i will teach you on a simplest way i can.

Steps:

  1. Prepare your butter cream and set aside.
this will be the one to make your fondant stick with your cake. this butter cream will also cover your cake and make it smooth and ready to be covered by fondant.

  2. Cover the cake with a thin layer of buttercream using a pallet knife. Once you made a buttercream, you need to cover the cake by using the spatula and carefully spread the buttercream evenly on all sides or portion of your cakes.

  3. Put the cake in your the refrigerator for 20-30 minutes. until the buttercream becomes harden. If the buttercream is too soft, the fondant will slide right off.

4.Clear a large, smooth work surface and dust it with powdered sugar. Dusting will prevent your fondant from sticking with the working area and with your hands.

  1. Allow your fondant to reach room temperature so it can make easier for you to work with. You can knead it for about five minutes to make it softer and easier to work with; you will be needing to knead the fondant when it is too hard or still breakable. If the fondant "dough" is already pliable enough and is not easily breaking, you may flatten it and rolled it according to your desired thickness.

  2. Once, the buttercream is already hard, you may now start to prepare your fondant and start to create your decorations or designs and color them.

  1. You should also make a fondant to cover your whole cake. Make sure that you roll it and make some excess or adjustment so you cans till trim it down. Then loosely roll the fondant into the rolling pin. Smooth the fondant onto the cake using the "fondant smoothing" tool.

  2. Finish your cake decorations

For the final picture, here's my finished product during my training:
