Anti-cold Soup

A couple of years ago, I stumbled upon Madhubala, an Indian series.  I hadn’t watched any Indian series before. There was little that could make laugh at that time. But a scene when Madhubala came to visit her parents and announced, »The queen Madhubala has come to reign in these premises for the next couple days, « made me laugh and curious enough to watch the next episodes. This post is not about the series though, but about the soup from the series.

In one scene RK, Madhu's famous husband, acts in some prisoners rebellion scene and is splashed with lots of artificially made rain. Afterwards, he ordered his personal assistant to make the rain have 27 degree Celsius next time. But, as RK felt a slight chill after his hard work and he had to work i.e. act next day, he made himself an anti-cold soup, which, if you want to try, really works

The recipe:

  • 1 peeled and grated fresh ginger root (could be ½, if it's big)
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1 teaspoon black cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon curcuma
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of ghee (or oil or butter)
  • 2-3 cups of water

Fry the seeds on 1 teaspoon ghee (or oil or butter), add water and boil it for 10 minutes. Pass it through a filter, let it cool a bit, and drink.

Sort:

Can’t wait until I get sick again to try this ;)

Chilly weather is good enough for this, no need to get sick.

I was looking for a recipe like this a few weeks ago when I had a bad cold. I ended up just adding some hot sauce to chicken stock. This sounds much better!

Well, it's winter here (or at least officially), so I thought it might help. It isn't very tasty though, but it truly helps, I tried it several times.

Hmm.. maybe I'll modify it to actually taste good then. haha. No reason it shouldn't.

It doesn't taste that bad either, but I wouldn't mind knowing the tastifying modification.

Russians drink chicken bouillon

I prefer this one - it's a quicker solution.

Ha. Canadian's as well. We call it "sick soup", and usually add some spice to it.

I just salted water
