Carabao Cup, dulu namanya Carling Cup, dianggap sebagai Piala Ketiga dari gelar domestik yang dapat diraih oleh tim yang berlaga di Premier League. Carabao Cup ini disponsori oleh minuman energy asal negeri Gajah Putih, Thailand. Carabao Cup, tidak mengenal sistem Home and Away, apabila ada tim yang berhasil menang di waktu normal. Pertandingan Replay hanya dilakukan apabila hasil imbang.
The Reds memiliki keunggulan faktor tuan rumah. Liverpool dapat tampil menghadapi Chelsea dengan manager barunya di Anfield, untuk menakar kekuatan The Blues sebelum bertarung di Premier League.
Meskipun kerap Carabao Cup menjadi ajang tampilnya pemain muda, pemain yang jarang mendapat kesempatan tampil di PL, namun Bigmatch seperti ini bisa berbeda. Apalagi Klopp sepertinya harus mengangkat tropi di tahun ini. Demikian pula Sarri yang ingin memberi kesan positif ke fans Chelsea.
