Komodo is a species of giant lizard that is only found in 4 islands in East Nusa Tenggara region on the island of Gili Motang, Island Padar, Rinca Island and Komodo Island itself. The giant reptile is endemic and protected.

In Komodo Island itself there is a village known as Kampung Komodo. Although the Komodo dragon is known to be dangerous because of its saliva containing deadly bacteria, the proximity of the giant lizard with the community is inseparable from the folklore that is believed by the locals.
