REDEMPTION (5-minute Freewrite)

The house slumped on the overgrown lot like a forgotten bum beside a dead railway station. Blank windows looked out over a little town like sunken eyes void of life. Cracked steps and a front door hanging on rusted nails grinned at walkers who passed.
Her hammer pounded the real estate sign into the hardscrabble ground. "For Sale. Build to Suit. Clear the Lot. Creative Financing Options!" From a crack in the clapboard slats of the attic somber eyes looked down with disapproval.
One final showing and she could stop pushing this ruin. The couple entered the wrecked home. The front door slammed. Wind tore through the ragged trees outside, shutters banged, and chains clattered upstairs. The realtor lead the charge as the trio retreated.
The house had redeemed itself once more as it waited for the rightful owner's return.T H E E N D
