Coffee and Friends: The Recipe for Happiness

in #friendship6 days ago

It has been almost two years since we graduated from Medical School. Life, like an untamable river, has carried each of us along different paths: some crossed borders, others explored new provinces, a few hung up their diplomas to pursue unexpected ventures, and then there are those of us who, still in the trenches, remain working in Healthcare.

Despite the distance and our diverging journeys, this little group finds a miraculous way to reunite at least three times a year. It may not seem like much, but coordinating the schedules of these busy "worker ants" is no small feat. Who would have thought that the daily companionship we once took for granted would become such a luxury today!

This weekend, our calendars finally aligned, their cracks overlapping just enough. And what better plan than to take refuge in "El Portalito," a cozy little spot in our hometown, nestled in the entrance of a house, which welcomed us this Saturday afternoon with the warmth of a family home.

And so, surrounded by frothy cappuccinos, sweet piña coladas, indulgent Bombón coffees, and cold beers, we began to weave our conversations back together. This time, it wasn't in a cold hospital ward, but in the intimacy of a café. Yet, we were the same people: still filled with dreams—some now realized, others still waiting their turn—but with the same spirit as those young students who once decided to study Medicine. In the end, we understood that the degree was not the greatest gift of our studies, but something more beautiful, profound, and enduring: friendship.
