A golden retriever met a burglar and kept trying to get him to play fetch
A couple in San Diego, Dante Rowley and his fiancée Stephanie, were on a plane when they opened their Ring app. There was a ladder propped against their second-floor window. The window had been left open a little, and someone had climbed in.
Here is the funny part. Their four-year-old golden retriever, Nash, did not chase the guy out. Nash brought him toys. Different toys, over and over, clearly trying to get a game going.
The intruder made himself completely at home. He took off his shirt and shoes, went through the fridge, ate yogurt and turkey and cheese, and then took a nap.
Rowley texted San Diego police from the air and gave them live access to the camera feed. Officers got to the house in about five minutes. When they arrived, Nash ran to the front door to greet them too, toy in his mouth. Police arrested John Cline, 57, on suspicion of first-degree burglary.
I like this story for two reasons. One, the owners watched the whole thing from 30,000 feet and were still able to do something about it, which is a strange thing to be able to say. Two, Nash never wavered. Stranger in the house, police at the door, same answer every time: here is a toy, let's play.
Nash is obviously a terrible guard dog. But the police handled that part anyway, so it worked out fine for everyone except the man who got arrested.
