This reminds me alot of a me called Utopia, back in the late '90s. It was a similar co-operative kingdom game vs other kingdoms... But we had the pleasure of not having instant communication!
That does sound like a blessing. I've played a couple of these kingdom builder type of games. They are always a very long term game and you really need find people you enjoy playing with over the long run. Most of the time though its like a fifty people max so you end up knowing everyone really well. This game there was just so many people involved in this I never got to know anyone at all.
I just took a look and Utopia is still kicking along!
That is crazy to see an older game like that still up and running. Maybe you will have some fun with it again.
