My First Ever Game

in #game4 years ago (edited)

Hello Steemit

Well, I just recently posted my first post, and posting it this late at night may be a mistake :/. Anyways though, I'd like to start my first official post by talking about one of my first every creations.

In 2016, as a young school student, I was bored on the school bus one day and wanted to play a game. Unfortunately for me, my school's internet was filtered and restricted, allowing me access to only educational websites. I found this incredibly frustrating at the time, and decided to myself 'why don't I just make a game?'. And that I did.

While I updated it a few months ago with minor new details, the game is (mostly) the same.
(If you actually want to play the game, single player doesn't work, but the game can be found here.)

Now this game may not seem like much, and quite frankly, it isn't. It's two squares, a 'laser', and a rectangle collision algorithm with a few fancy tricks to make the game a little easier to play. As a kid tho, this absolutely amazed me. All I did was type commands onto my computer, and like magic, it interacted with me. That feeling of amazement has never left me though, and if you check my Github history, you can see I've worked on a variety of projects since then.

So what's the point of this post, you may be asking yourself. Well in all creative fields, whether it's programming, art, music, writing, etc. You're going to do poorly at first. It's just a rule of life, it seems. And at first, you'll be making very little progress. You have to work through this, however, to become better at whatever you're doing. My first game was terrible, and I know this. But over time, with practice and much more time put into game development, I've gotten better. It sounds cheesy, but put the time in, and you'll be amazed at the progress you achieve.

P.S.
I'm currently working on possibly the biggest project I've ever done. I'm finishing the physics engine up relatively soon, and will be posting updates whenver I have the time to.
