With smartphone gaming offering serious revenue streams of late, popular battle royale game Fortnite has made headlines by generating over $100 million in revenue within just 90 days of its launch on Apple’s iOS App Store. Analytics firm Sensor Tower in its report said the game attracted over $25 million during its first month and had surpassed $50 million by the day 45. Fortnite was launched on March 15.

“Epic Games has managed to surpass some of most successful multiplayer mobile titles of the past two years, despite the fact that Fortnite initially launched in invite-only form for two of the 12 weeks it has been available,” according to the report by Sensor Tower.

It’s a free game

Fortnite is free to download for everyone. But the game insists that players pay for "V-Bucks" in the game. The “V-Bucks” can be used to get items gliders, outfits and other items that can be used to customise the game. Players will have to spend a minimum of $9.99 for 1,000 V-Bucks. Of course, there’s the option to spend more on ‘V-Bucks’. For someone wanting to play the game entirely for free, will have to spend considerable amount of time to earn these “V-Bucks”.

Is it the fastest to reach $100 million?

While Fortnite is definitely one of the fastest growing games in terms of revenue, it has not been able to beat Clash Royale, which is the fastest to reach $100 million revenue. The Clash Royale game on iOS had crossed over $150 within 90 days of its launch way ahead of Fortnite which could reach $100 in 90 days. “Fortnite, however, reached this point nearly three months faster than other popular games like Knives Out and Honor of Kings, at 173 and 179 days, respectively,”
