Greetings, friends. While researching OpenTTD, I came across the news of the release of version 15.0 on January 1st, 2026. Judging by the comments, it has been very well received and eagerly awaited for several years. There has also been some controversy surrounding the wallpaper chosen as the presentation background.

I'm not an expert on OpenTTD; I've been learning to play it for less than four months, but this update caught my attention, and I wanted to share it in a review highlighting the improvements in the new version.

New Features. Sources: [1] [2]

Build bridges over stations This has probably been the most applauded addition. It's now possible to build bridges for trains or road vehicles that pass over stations, docks, and locks. This will facilitate space management in congested cities.

Road Waypoints: Road vehicles can now use waypoints, just like trains and ships, preventing trucks and buses from getting lost in large cities or on long journeys.

“Wetlands”, a new terrain type: The “Wetlands” terrain type has been added for rivers that don't reach the sea, and the “infinite sea” option has been added so that maps are surrounded by ocean to the horizon, not just black.

Cargo Management

Cargo History Charts: Charts will now be available showing what has been produced, transported, and delivered to both industries and cities, facilitating the analysis of each player's management.

Multiplayer Mode

Company passwords have been removed in multiplayer mode. Instead, a direct invitation system from the online player list has been implemented. This prevents brute-force password attacks.

Interface

Auto-Detect Interface: The game now automatically detects the screen resolution to adjust the button size.

Simplified Menu: The menu has been reorganized into a vertical list.

OpenGFX2 Graphics by Default: The game now comes with OpenGFX2, a complete visual upgrade.

The new main menu features a new background based on the world of Toyland. This has generated intense discussion on Reddit, which you can check out.

Video: OpenTTD 15 Just Released - Here's What's New

I haven't installed the new version of OpenTTD yet; I still have questions and need to verify if it works on my old laptop. I prefer to wait and hear opinions from @sergeyk and other players like @mohammadfaisa, @mostofajamanl, and @akmalshakir.

In the meantime, I invite you to watch this video. I think it's essential because it details every change in the infrastructure and interface, allowing you to see how the new bridges and checkpoints work.
