Hardcore Permadeath Disaster

Tried hosting a hardcore permadeath world for friends and right when someone found rare loot the server crashed and rolled back saves which ruined the whole story arc. Now the group refuses to continue until we upgrade. What game hosting would you suggest for smooth uptime and reliable backups during tense zombie sessions?
