In 2016 the United States Video game market was valued at 17.68 billion dollars. There where 2.2billion gamers worldwide in the 2017 and the entire gaming industry was valued at over 108billion dollars. These figures clearly show that the gaming industry is massive and a billion dollar industry.
Video games date back to about 1970. The video game industry has improved over the years as we now have video games on more computing platforms not just on consoles, better graphics in video games as games that use real human figures like FIFA now mimic the images and character with far better accuracy then it use to in the past.
The industry is however not without problems, Firstly, video game production is an expensive business, some video games cost millions of dollars to produce and market. Small developers struggle to push their product as bigger gaming platforms with big budget seize the marketplace, and this is clearly shown in their revenue as more than 90% of gaming revenue is made by top 30 gaming platform/studio. The current structure of the market is clearly unfair to smaller developers.
They are no platform that effectively caters for the need of the ecosystem. Developers have to rely on several isolation platforms different things. For fundraising, they have to use platforms like Kickstarter and various social media platforms for marketing, aside from the fact that this takes a huge value out of the gaming industry but fees are huge, from fundraising to marketing and publishing the fees involved are huge and not suitable for any developer.
Lastly, the industry is not structured in ways that enable gamers to contribute their knowledge and funds to their favourite games. Video games also don't incentivize gamers for their time, and this, in turn, makes the profit lifespan for video games project short.
There is an obvious need for a platform, that makes it easy for developers to raise funds, make marketing and publishing cheap and affordable to developers while incentivizing gamers. It's on this note I will like to introduce Blockhub.
