MORTAL KOMBAT X REVIEWED

Mortal Kombat X reveals something of his legacy, but is pushing into a new future.

There was a time when the Mortal Kombat series was once unique. The original arcade game surpassed Streetfight's violence with his blood donators and for his time graphically violent death sacrifices.

Successive Mortal Kombat entries have tried to surpass what was before them, accumulate new finishing moves, add Minxample distractions, and inflate their list.

With Mortal Kombat from 2011, the developer NetherRealm Studios has once again set its sights, concentrating on classic characters, fundamentally reworking the mechanics of the fighting game, and rolling back twisted fictions for two decades.

Mortal Kombat X is based on the Framework of the Year 2011, both in its history and in its technical implementation; the combat mechanisms of the game were more refined than they were reinvented, except for an important addition that adds diversity and not just complexity.

Mortal Kombat X has a robust set of single player modes, but it is the main design mode in which NetherRealm has spent most of its time.

In the course of a dozen chapters, each focused on a certain fighter, the players fight their way through a story that takes up where the previous Mortal Kombat has stopped.

The MKX campaign, which runs quite lean for four to five hours, jumps back and forth between the events that were placed immediately after Mortal Kombat during the 20 years, through various dimensions and political groups.

They play mainly as good guys from Mortal Kombat - or at least those who seem to be on the right side of the conflict at any time in

one-on-one battles between premeditated sequences.

You will see about as much as you will play; some of the intersections that run through fights run well five minutes or longer, some are spiked with fast time-event-style key combinations that give these moments an interactive feel to the movie.

Fortunately, the story of Mortal Kombat X is quite great, in a stupid science fiction kung fu movie.

NetherRealm throws a few satisfying Kameen and nods for players who are Mortal Kombat after the third game in the franchise, and there are a few moments in which it becomes serious.

During the campaign family relations are touched and it is fun to explore the dynamics of the mothers, fathers, sons and daughters of Mortal Kombat X.

The story is complex, filled with playable and non-playable fighters from the entire franchise, but NetherRealm juggles all these characters.

The cast is a mix of old, new and vague familiar.

The playable list boasts over two dozen fighters, including:

  • veterans Scorpion
    *Sub-Zero
  • Mileena, Kitana, and
  • Sonya Blade.

MKX also explores the next generation of fighters literally; the daughters and sons of Johnny Cage, Sonya. Kenshi and Jax are presented, as well as a handful of all new creations, including two particularly funny Outworld-born characters, the insect-like D'Vorah and the two-in-one fighter Ferra / Torr

It is noteworthy that X is one of the lowest ninja quotients of a Mortal Kombat game.

This is my way of saying that the cast shows a welcome variety of characters, young and old, men and women, human and non-human.

NetherRealm has fortunately also simplified the overcomplicated and sometimes kitschy design of some of its characters, and the women in Mortal Kombat X are far less sexualized than in the past, with outfits that are more appropriate for life or death.

While the initial letters of Mortal Kombat X are smaller than those of the previous games, NetherRealm has significantly tripled the number of characters to choose from thanks to the new Variations system.

Each character in MKX is equipped with three combat styles that drastically mix the special movement set, which has a great impact on the tactics of each character.

A fighter like Jax, for example, could play like a grappler in a variation (wrestler), but his opponent in a different variant (Heavy Weapons) more effectively. Veteran characters like Scorpion or Sub-Zero always have their characteristic features - spear and ice ball - over variants, but they are equipped with other complementary attacks.

Scorpion can summon a demon in a variant, while Sub-Zero can generate itself in another ice clone.

MULTIPLAYER

In the dozens of games of Mortal Kombat X, which I played online (through a Wi-Fi connection), I have experienced a variety of technical achievements. Some early games felt somewhat sluggish, while others had a handful of delays in the full second when the network code arrived. But lately the online performance of the game seemed to be solid; I have experienced a few battles, which hardly differ from offline battles.

An online component of the game with which we have not spent much time is Faction Wars, the ongoing meta game. With Faction Wars, players can join one of five groups and easily contribute to the global reputation of the group by playing in single player and online multiplayer.

Practically everything a player does in Mortal Kombat X contributes in some way to his faction and adds experience points to the overall pool.

Players will be rewarded with faction-specific rewards if their chosen group is at the top of the global weekly ranking, but we have not experienced these rewards ourselves or seen the material benefits they have.

It remains to be seen whether the Lin Kuei (Sub-Zero group) will ever be the dominant faction of the game, as it is currently the faction with which most players have aligned themselves.

It can be a lot of fun exploring these variations, finding one that fits your style, or opening up new possibilities for a particular fighter.

The implementation of Variations is brilliant:

NetherRealm has given the players a familiar base on which they can learn their characters with which they have been playing for decades.

New in X is an endurance bar that is exhausted when players hit bombs, run and break. The endurance staff seems to limit the effectiveness of some zone strategies while making it somewhat more difficult to break the opponent's combos. At this stage, it is hard to tell what the real impact of the digger will have on the MKX competition game, but your opinion will probably depend on whether or not you have pointed out in the past games about giving or receiving zoning spam. Beyond the story mode, players have a lot to experience in single player mode.

The towers return and allow the players to climb ladders of two-fights. Living Towers offer new, daily challenges, where players are upside down or fight at a double pace or with rockets and grenades. Other. The crypt also returns, albeit somewhat altered - it is now more like a dungeon crawler of the first person.

You'll find items, unlock secret areas, solve puzzles, and even fight monsters to unlock everything MKX has to offer. It's a bit chunky to move around, but it's also incredibly charming.

Online, Mortal Kombat X offers a comprehensive set of competitive modes, including individual bouts, team battles and King of the Hill, where up to eight players can compete in one room and fight for first place.

King of the Hill remains a great place to learn new techniques and show your skills.

NetherRealm has created the venue better than ever for competitive games.

A new online mode called Tower Battles serves as a kind of hybrid between single-player and online multiplayer.

Tower battles are essentially online versions of the challenging towers of the game in which the players compete in a certain challenge for the highest score. You are still fighting against computer-controlled opponents with different modifiers and winning conditions, but you are doing this in real-time against other players.
Between the games, you will get an impression of what your competitors are doing, which can create a real sense of tension. It is an entertaining option for players who are not ready or too intimidated to explore the more direct player-versus-player modes.

Mortal Kombat X is for casual gamers who want to experience their rich selection of single-player content as well as for friends, but enough for competitive players who want to place their game plans and variants.

Source

It is a robust, feature-rich, competitive combat game that has worked in past games for NetherRealm Studios and even shows signs of restraint and maturity amid the bloody hyper violence.

Mortal Kombat X is linked to an ambitious online meta game and is one of the best fighting games in the series.

Note: While Mortal Kombat X was tested with retail copies, multiplayer servers were not active long enough to ensure the stability of the game. Therefore, this review remains tentative until we have a clearer idea of the startup status of MKX.
