[GAME REVIEW] Dinasty Warriors 9- Action Games #18

Existing for a dozen years with fanatical fan base, it's pretty amazing seeing the "as simple" game of Dynasty Warriors from Omega Force and Koei Tecmo can last so long. As other games begin to grow to offer something more complex than gameplay or rich in the story side, it persists with a genre called "Musou" - an action game that positions you as an over-powered character that is easily able to chop hundreds to thousands of enemy troops in a short time. Everything remains wrapped with Sam Kok's setting as a base, although consistently, new characters are introduced. But we all understand it seems, as well as Koei Tecmo, that this franchise needs to change significantly in order to appear relevant. A challenge they answer with two words in the latest series - Dynasty Warriros 9: Open-world.

First impression

Since its first introduction through a series of screenshots and videos, open-world has become one of the main attractions that Koei Tecmo and Omega Force are selling for Dynasty Warriors 9. That they claim will bring the world wide and diverse landmarks of China as a "playground" to You are exploring. To test it directly, our impressions are not so positive about what they are offering. In the early hours of the game, at least in the fashion of the story we are jajal, it feels more like a series of experiments that impose something new, but fails to test and confirm it as part of an essential new experience. Because believe it or not, we do not feel its contribution in a significant portion.

From the side of the gameplay, this is still an action game that allows you to finish off thousands of troops, which are now of course scattered in the wider world. Stronger performance of consoles and PCs allows more units on one screen, resulting in a larger-scale war sensation. But as a consequence, you have to "pay" it with the stability of the framerate down quite drastically, even in the Playstation 4 Pro version though. The biggest problem is the open-world concept that does not contribute much to your playfulness. A vast, empty world that does not provide enough rewards to encourage the exploration process leaves it no more than the space you need to travel to move from one mission to another, and nothing more. We are talking about the freedom to ignore the hundreds of enemy troops you encounter, and only to pursue the main target. The result? Is a design that feels more, ended in vain.

While waiting for a more proportional time to review, let alone remembering enough characters to be opened based on each faction and divided into different chapters, let us throw a bunch of screenshots below to help you get a clearer picture of what it's Dynasty Warriors 9. Dynasty Warriors 9 US version has just been released on the platforms of your favorite gen genes except sorry for Nintendo Switch. With the emergence of open-world elements offered by this game, of course we automatically also hold high expectations in playing games made by Koei Tecmo is satisfied and without obstacles. But unfortunately, hope is not always directly proportional to the reality. PC version which is the version we are most anticipated from the game Dynasty Warriors 9 was indeed shambles. One of the veteran game media, DSO has just tried to play Dynasty Warriors 9 on PC, and they are very very dissatisfied with the performance of the game. In the tutorial session mode with right-handed setting at 1080p resolution, they are only able to run this game at 45 fps for GPU GTX980TI. AMD version actually even worse by only able to reach 30-35 fps on the RX580. Each GPU they run with a processor I7 4930k and 8 GB of RAM. out of the tutorial mode, fortunately this game started to run better. But unfortunately though GTX980TI able to present the performance of 60 fps (sometimes down to 57 fps), this game is not too friendly for AMD users because their AMD GPU is not at all able to run the game Dynasty Warriors 9 consistently at 60 fps even when lowering the settings in high or medium though. Then DSO also complained when the number of fps displayed sometimes felt not at all in accordance with the performance produced by the game Dynasty Warrior 9 is. Finally, DSO also deplore the mouse input and movement that they think is very bad and uncomfortable even run at 60 fps. PC is still a platform that is not too "familiar" for many Japanese developers and publishers. Despite the fact that they have tried to offer their latest series on the platform, but the learning process seems still long. Of the myriad of Japanese games released on PCs, especially the obvious ones are more focused on the console, only a few are able to offer charming port quality on the first day of release. Although some ended up improving with time and patches here and there, not a few also invite spicy criticism at the beginning. This is what happened with the latest open-world game from Koei Tecmo and Omega Force - Dynasty Warriors 9.

Koei Tecmo's desire to provide something new by injecting the concept of open-world into his teenage franchise, Dynasty Warriors, seems to be a boomerang on PC. In just hours after he was officially available on Steam, Dynasty Warriors 9 was immediately flooded with many negative reviews. Most complained about technical problems from unstable framerate to bad bugs at the beginning of the game, even in the strongest PC configuration though. Gamers who already have specifications exceeding the needs of recommendations complain of poor framerate. The result? Within just a few hours, the game has earned the title "Mostly Negative" in Steam, with reports from other sites like DSO Gaming which also agree on the same thing.
