Easter Eggs chilling in video games

in #gaming5 years ago

Since long ago, the secrets within video games have always been sought by players, many of them may surprise you as they are references to other video games as well as messages from programmers. These are also known as Easter Eggs and have made legend since its first appearance in 1978 with the Atari 2600 Adventure videogame.

Although on many occasions we come across some very funny secrets, maybe at some point you came across a Easter Egg a little scary or disturbing in video games, giving you a good scare or at worst leaving your mind disoriented for a few moments.

The developers do this for the most curious people, who are always looking for every detail inside the game to make them spend an uncomfortable time, however, sometimes do not do so with this intention, but the messages and images shown on screen may be misinterpreted especially for children.

In the extensive catalogue of videogames we can find an endless number of these disturbing secrets, but this time I'll show you some examples of the darkest Easter Egg.

Remember the Game Boy Camera? This device was very famous at the time, a cartridge that had on its top a camera which allowed you to take pictures with your Game Boy. This cartridge included a game in which you could play a large number of mini-games with the photos you took with your Game Boy Camera.

Although everything seems normal there is an Easter Eggs that left many of its players totally uneasy, in one of the mini-games there was a panel of options in the style of an RPG game, in them there was an option called RUN. When you hit that option several times, you could get a face with a very unpleasant sound with a message that says "who are you running from?".

Now we will move on to some of the strangest video games that any experienced player can play, this is Yume Nikki, RPG created in 2004 by a user under the pseudonym Kikiyama with the program RPG Maker. Those who have experienced some gameplay with this game know perfectly well that it is a kind of psychological terror in 2D with very disturbing sprites.

In one of its phases there is a house where we can enter and see an innocent girl in the center of it, here we can turn off the light and we can go, apparently nothing happens, but if you insist on turning off the light the girl will become something that left many surprised, the music changes dramatically and will not let you escape through the door, this character is known as Uboa.

Finally, we are going to bring a small screamer, we know that there are many of these in video games, but I consider one of the most terrifying the one of Doom 3. If this game creates an atmosphere that always makes us tense at all times, however, in one of its levels when we see ourselves in the mirror we can get a very disturbing surprise.

There are many Easter Eggs of this style in the world of video games that may surprise you, we can last days telling our anecdotes with each of them, but I consider this topic that we can cover for a next time.

Did you ever get a scare in some secret video game? Tell me your experience through the comment box.
