Two more "new game" fails on Nintendo Switch
I am still really struggling to find a game to replace my Octopath obsession on the Nintendo Switch and since I have the jailbroken version of the Switch, there is nothing stopping me from trying out just anything.
Keep in mind before anyone freaks out about piracy that if I in fact do find a game that I like and play for more than say 10 hours or so, I pay for the game anyway. I am just part of a growing populace of people that are damn sick and tired of being charged $50-$70 for a game that is trash and the developers know it is trash but just have a good marketing campaign.

First off we have Illusion Island that I only played because years and years and years ago I played a game called Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse on the Sega Genesis and it was actually a friggin fantastic game that remains popular to this day. I was hopeful that this game would follow in the footsteps of that one and I think they tried to make it do so, but mostly this is just a rather scaled back and kind of boring platformer without any sort of real identity.

I like Donald's voice as much as the next guy but after a while with repetitive band boring gameplay you just want him, Minnie, Goofy, and Mickey to just shut up and get on with it.
I made it about 90 minutes into this game waiting for it to get good before I finally walked away.

Next we have Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D remake for Swtich. I have very fond memories of this and many other Dragon Quest games because they were a huge part of my upbringing.
Unfortunately, these games are outdated and despite the graphical overhaul, it is just kind of evident that this is a game from a era long past.

There is only so much polish that you can put on a turd and I think that Square Enix got their shinebox out in full force for this one but to no avail. I think the people that are happy about this game are the fanbois that would be happy just playing the original in a functional state on the Switch and honestly, the graphical and sound upgrades for the average user is not going to be enough. It's simply 80's RPG action with a few upgrades to the musical score but other than that, it is a boring slog of an RPG that we were ok with back in 1987 but these days we kind of expect a bit more.
Purely out of nostalgia's sake I managed to make it about 3 hours into replaying this one before I walked off on it as well. I will not be replaying this game.
I think that I am moving closer and closer to just biting the bullet and installing Octopath Traveler 0 on my Switch since this is what I am delaying anyway.
I only have two games that I need to try out before I just go ahead and do that. There is a Kirby game and Yoku's Island Express that I have installed already and simply haven't played them at all yet. If I have a go at both of those and feel the same way at the end, I think we can state without question that it is time for me to just put the latest Octopath on the system and forget about these other titles.
