The Jackals - Love Times Eight
Here's a wild Garage Punk song I just found on YouTube today! It is named Love Times Eight and the band is named The Jackals.
According to the video's description and my further research, the band was from Dallas Texas and the song was recorded in 1966 but was never pressed into records. There are supposedly only 5 acetate test pressings that were ever created.
The band consists of a lead vocalist, a guitar, bass, organ, and drums with apparently 2 bass drums in his kit. The tempo is pretty fast and the attitude is snotty and quite proto punk. The guitar is fuzzy and the organ is barely heard. There is a harmonica in parts as well.
Somehow a label named Caped Crusader Records released a single of this song in the late 80s or early 90s. The flip side is a version of Taxman recorded Live in 1967. This is a cover of the Beatles hit.
This is the A side - Love Times Eight
I also found the Live B side on YouTube which as I said is the Beatles song Taxman covered by The Jackals. It's not bad but it's not that great either.
Garage Rock from Texas never disappoints. They knew how to rock down there in the 60s. I hope you liked listening to The Jackals.
