Oranges!

Vintage postcard of Riverside, CA where Riverside's orange trees are highlighted.

Oranges grow well in the Inland Empire. The City of Riverside started off as a field of orange groves around Victoria Ave... and so here we are, with orange trees everywhere up to this day.

My Parent's planted this orange tree back in the 80's. It has been neglected for the past fifteen years until my Handy Man started watering it regularly for the past few months and now it bares fruit appetizing to humans. This whole time without being watered regularly, the fruit would not reach full maturation and was appealing to the many birds that have claimed my backyard as their turf to scavenge.

Picked the first orange of the season the other day.

What is your favorite way to consume orange products?
(E.g. Smoothies, marmalades, body scrubs, juiced, raw and as is, etc.)

Thanks! I look forward to doing so again.

I’m a big fan of the old postcards too. I found a vintage shop near me that sells them for a dollar. I started collecting trios with hopes to send them to family as per series. Seems kind of fun but doesn’t pay the bills. Now it’s just one of those projects piled on top of the table.

Regarding your question about oranges: my favorite way to consume oranges is in Kombucha! Especially blood oranges. They are they best for Kombucha. I bet you weren’t expecting that. 😁
I have a second answer. When I was a kid (yesterday), I would bite a small hole in its skin and then suck out all the juice and pulp through that same hole. These days... I don’t eat enough of them and I would probably just peel it with a butter knife.

yeah we love oranges and have so many right now, well you saw how I made bird feeders with them, I love to juice them, use in salad dressings, in cakes, in raw chocolate and if you dry the skin just the orange bit, it makes a great tooth powder xxxx

Thank you for the tooth tip! I wonder if that works for all citrus rind?
