Greetings and welcome to my blog. It’s been an amazing season and so much learnt. Thanks to the teacher for these great culinary lessons and expositions.

Alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages, for you, what is the best option to accompany a menu? Tell us.

Having learnt about drinks that accompanied menu and the types, for me the best option for beverages is non- alcoholic beverages.

I don’t really like taking alcohols though their intensity varies with the percentage of alcoholic contents. Am light headed and can’t seem to take it without having the intoxicating effect so I’d rather stick with the non-alcoholic.

We would like you to prepare a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) to accompany a dish (starter, main course or dessert)

So here I prepared a simple cold, sweet chocolate and creamy beverage to go with a hot solid starter.

The ingredients I used was:

  • Ovaltine chocolate powder
  • Milk powder
  • A cube of sugar
  • Cold water from the fridge (not room temperature)

I washed my glass cup and proceeded to add the chocolate powder and the milk powder to the cup followed by the cube of sugar.

I then added water to the mixture. You can see the contents are floating because it’s cold water hence I had to mix them and allow to settle for a While for proper mixture.

While I waited I proceeded to make my hot starter but I won’t describe the process here because it’s not required.

You can combine 1 starter with 1 drink, 1 main dish with 1 drink or 1 dessert with a drink. (any of the 3 options)

I choose to combine my sweet cold chocolate beverage and creamy drink with a hot solid starter in the gratin class and the starter is French toast, I had to add egg Sauce since they are always accompanied by a sauce.

Why did you choose this combination of drink and dish?

French toast is a rich in carbohydrates and protein due to the mixture of egg and milk and the beverage would be a good source of vitamins and minerals and healthy fat hence it’s a balance diet.

Also the starter is a hot solid starter and the sauce was spicy hence I needed something sweet and cold to calm down the effect as a way to create a balance to the food and taste.
