We have successfully come to the end of gastronomy course and I'm really grateful that I followed this course from week one to this week 6.

I have really learned a lot from this lessons: How to prepare a salad, how to prepare either hot liquids or hot solid starter, I really enjoyed how making fresh pasta from the scratch, how to prepare rice as a main dish, quantity prepare dessert and it preparation . Right now we are the last week which is how to prepare our favourite drink that goes well with a meal.

Alcoholic or non-alcoholic drinks, which is the best option for you to accompany a meal? Tell us.

Thousands of people globally prefers non-alcoholic drink to alcoholic drinks when it comes to meal because non -alcoholic beverage has numerous health benefits to human body. In our traditions, alcohol drink is often give to men for honour and it can be combined with very few dish. I takes alcoholic drink in less quantity to avoid being intoxicated.

My best option is non-alcoholic beverages like Milkshake, Fruit juice, Coffee, cocktail, sparkling water, Tea, Soda, infused water and lot more.

Non-alcoholic drinks are the best for me to accompany with my meals because it geos well with different meal.

We would like you to prepare a drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) to accompany a dish (starter, main course or dessert)

For the purpose of this contest, I will share the preparation process of fruit juice pineapple, ginger with orange in particular. I cherish this fruit juice because it contains essential vitamins and minerals due to the fact that it is made with two different fruits and ginger.

I made my fruit with just three ingredients which are;

  • Pineapple
  • Orange
  • Ginger

Preparation process


Step 1: I wash all the utensils and peel my orange and the same to pineapple and ginger.

Step two was cutting of all the fruit to my desired size and assemble together for blending.

Remember my blender is already washed, so I turned all the fruits into it for blending and I allowed it for like 3 minutes for smoothness.

Since, l need a light and smooth fruit juice, l decided to carry out a good filtration process.

Right now our fruit juice is done, I turned it into a glass with a straw an a slice of cucumber at the top of my glass making it more attractive and unique.

I gladly accomplished my pineapple orange juice with MNT jollof rice ( a main dish ) with green veggies and egg as my protein.

Why did you choose this drink and dish combination?

My fruit juice combination with jollof rice and boil egg is natural, nutritious, balanced and refreshing. The sweetness of pineapple and orange complement the spiciness of jollof rice.

Adding ginger was my best option because ginger helps in the proper digestion of protein and carbohydrates. More so, orange and pineapple are rich in vitamin C and ginger and also enhances anti-oxidant which is beneficial to our health.

Another reason I choose this combination is that since MTN jollof rice is a little salty, I choose fruit juice that is sweet to complement the taste.

To be very honest, I have enjoyed every minute I spent in the class, carrying out my weekly homework task for the past six week. I love and cherish cooking, learning about starter, main dish and dessert has unleashed the cooking creativity in me.This week round it all with beverages. I realised that not all drink complement a meal. I sincerely appreciate my instructor for helping us know the right portion for each day.
