SC-S29|Geo-Quest Mystery – Week 2: The Sound Map

Africa is where the sounds of cricket, frogs which are semi-aquatic creatures, fowl, and birds can be so loud. Like the place that I visited in Akwanga is just a place that's closer to houses where people usually go to watch water from a small stream which is now dry left with small water coming out from a hole.

The place is like a desert because of the dry land, stones, and trees in the place. In the image captured and shared below is where the sounds of cricket are heard the most especially during morning and evening hours the sound of cricket usually supersedes other sounds.

The small stream which is shared below is where the sounds of frogs usually come from the water is always the way it is during the dry season and those who usually come to fetch water from the small stream use the water for washing and watering the garden.

The trees especially the palm trees are where birds usually perch. There are even some bird houses in some of the trees. These birds build their houses using grasses as the place is surrounded by grass.

Also, there are bamboo trees in the place, but I was a bit afraid to get into the place because of snake. There are some bird houses in the bamboo trees and lizards are also available at the place especially under the bamboo trees.

Thank you for your participation in Geo-Quest Mystery – Week 2: The Sound Map. Here is an evaluation of the post by @josepha, following the official Week 2 rubric for Geo-Quest Mystery.

Evaluation Summary

CriteriaScoreComments
1. SteemAtlas Pin & Sound Description1.35 / 2.0The SteemAtlas pin is included with coordinates and a named location (“Sounds in Akwanga bush”, Akwanga, Nigeria) plus Google Maps/plus code. The sound setting is described (crickets, frogs, birds). To score higher, add more place clarity (exact spot name/landmark, what you see on arrival) and expand the sound layers with concrete details (wind through trees, footsteps on dry soil, water drip/flow, voices, distance/echo).
2. Creativity of Mission & Hidden Sound Challenge0.40 / 2.0The location choice is natural and fits the sound theme (dry-season stream + wildlife). However, the required Hidden Sound Challenge is missing: there are no three hidden sound clues for others to guess. To improve, hide three sounds using short metaphor hints (without naming them) and invite readers to identify them after watching the video.
3. Speem.watch Proof Video (20–60 seconds, focus on sound)1.80 / 2.5A proof video exists (YouTube via Speem.watch). The concept matches Week 2 (ambient wildlife sounds). To reach full points, ensure the clip is clearly 20–60 seconds, include a 10–15 second “standing still” moment to separate layers (crickets vs birds vs footsteps), and add a 1-line spoken intro naming the spot.
4. Storytelling Quality1.30 / 2.5The post explains what sounds exist and where they come from (crickets in dry land, frogs near remaining water, birds in trees). To score higher, add a stronger narrative structure: when you arrived, what you felt, and a “one-minute listening” section (loudest sound, smallest sound, repeating rhythm, and one surprising sound).
5. Engagement (Listening / Guessing others)0.00 / 1.0No engagement credit: you noted the participant did not comment on other entries or guess sounds/clues. Full points require guessing sounds on at least two other posts.

Final Score: 4.85 / 10

Remarks:
This entry has a valid SteemAtlas pin and a suitable natural sound environment. The major improvements needed are: (1) add a proper Hidden Sound Challenge with three hidden sound clues, (2) strengthen the storytelling with a clear one-minute listening moment, and (3) complete engagement by commenting on at least two other participants’ entries and guessing their sounds.
