The Thing

A sudden downfall in the preparation for doom is only to be expected, but when the call comes to prepare to meet your maker then you know something’s wrong and perhaps it’s not the time to scratch the seven year itch or go on holiday to the Canary Islands, wherever they are.

Anyway, in the deeps of the mine the search party had lost their footing and were on the reserves of their air supply and couldn’t see a thing in the dark as they felt their way along the cold wet walls and becoming ever more lost by the moment.

They were being pursued by something nameless and remorseless, and their fear was a palpable entity that needed a shot of two of the hard stuff right quick.

But there was nowhere to turn and god was a long way away up in the clouds with his angels playing harps and flying around the heavenly glory.

The devil on the other hand was waiting to welcome them further down the tunnel with open arms as soon as they came within reach.

But it was not to be, The Thing behind them picked them off one by one until they’d all screamed their last and were no more.

Over in the bottom of the Welsh valley people tossed and turned in their beds and some even woke up to remark at all the noises coming from the mine.

Maybe it was the ghosts, or maybe it was The Thing that someone said they’d seen, or maybe it was the dead coming back to life.

Whatever it was it was making a lot of bloody noise and keeping everyone awake.
