Off-Grid: Patio Sink Install with Gravity fed Garden Hose Adapters
I've recently installed an outdoor sink, faucet, and drain for the patio. It's convenient to have easy access to outside water for hand washing and other uses. The faucet's hot and cold water lines are supplied with gravity fed collected rain water from the cabin's roof. A couple adapters were needed to connect each water line.
Faucet Water Supply Hose Adaptation
In the picture above you can see the braided hot and cold water supply hoses from the faucet. The female threaded connectors are 3/8". In the picture below you can see the 3/8" male to 1/2" IPS male adapters, and the 1/2" IPS female to 3/4" female garden hose adapters that I purchased from the hardware store. Thread Seal Tape was used to wrap the male connection threads a few times to act as a gasket to ensure a water tight connection.
In the pictures below you can see how the adapters have been connected and tightened.
Next the adapters are attached and tightened onto the faucet water supply hoses.
Hot and Cold Water Supply Connected
In the picture below you can see the faucet's cold water supply hose connected to the hose that is gravity fed from the cabin's south side of the roof rain collection barrels. The faucet's hot water supply is connected to the hot water from the rocket stove boiler that also feeds the outdoor hot shower. Both gravity fed water supply hose lines are connected to the faucet hoses with a standard male 3/4" threaded garden hose connector. You can see from the faucet test that the gravity fed water is providing a conservative flow. It's just enough for me to wash up with without draining the rain barrels too quickly.
Sink Drain Installed
In the picture below you can see how I drilled, carved, and filed a perfectly sized hole for the black drain hose. It happened to be an almost perfect fit for the sink drain hole.
I filled in the space between the drain hose and the porclean sink drain with hot glue. I will eventually purchase a proper sink drain kit.
Sink Drains to Wild Strawberry Garden
We take care not to put anything in the sink that is not safe for plants or animals. In the picture below you can see the drain hose from the sink where it empties into the wild strawberry garden.
I'm looking forward to easily washing my hands outside after working in the garden.

Nice Sinke! - Looks like you're gonna end up with not only a great looking place and setup, but some great looking strawberries too!
I know a lot of people who shy away from Water related jobs.... Just one of those things you've got to try, experiment and gain confidence with.
Nice job on your system.
Thanks - one of those creature comforts - it's nice to be able to walk up to a sink and get instant water from the tap, then have it effortlessly drain away :) The hardware store guy was good about finding the adapters for me - despite my mains being garden hoses lol

I like your work :D
Maybe I will contribute with an altruistic project for someone else.
Making a house livable for a whole family by financing and supervising the works. Making a single mom, her boy and two parents with disabilities happy.
Cheers!
Thanks @steemmakers - it's great to have a Maker group on steemit :)
Great idea and nice job. I need to put a sink outside. Right now everyone uses a 5 gallon pail under a tap on our water tank...
Thanks - I use to use a tapped hose over a bucket, the height and ease of use i'm finding useful. The sink and faucet will eventually go in the house we're building, just the adapters were purchased for this project :)
Another great DIY post @jackdub I like ideas to use grey water on garden. Do you have to worry about soap in grey water? Can the strawberries handle a little soap in the water?
Thanks - a little plant safe soap might not be too bad here and there, but I try to avoid it. I don't work with grease or raw meats, so most dirt comes off easily with a good scrubbing with warm water :)

Flow is always a problem, but as you pointed out, if the flow is higher, you will empty your tanks. Nice job, and an attractive sink.
The grey water use is wise, and will save you some watering; reducing time spent.
:)
Thanks - I suspect the reduction to 3/8" slows it down a lot, the water has a solid flow with just an open garden hose.
Agreed, but since that is a plus, you are fine!
:)
Beautiful and useful!
I love the use of the grey water
That's a really good project! I need a sink for my greenhouse, but I don't have a tank for gravity feed for the sink. I could use the garden hose, but then I only get cold water.
A $20 trashcan and a $15 tap to fill up or catch the rain would work. It's not often that I need hot water in the summer - garden dirt comes off pretty easy with cold water :)
True enough. :-)
It would be nice to have warm water for washing the canning pots after I'm done canning a batch of tomatoes. :-)
Great project.
Don't forget that you can use fundition.io to gain funding for your homesteading projects and gain exposure.
I did most of my installation work at my home so I know I like doing my own little projects.
Cheers!
Thanks - I've just recently been looking into fundition-io and utopian-io for funding and opensourcing some upcoming projects :)
Do you work with fundition-io ?
No but I know and trust the developers and owners. It really is a good platform that can help you, provided that you use it right! :P
Yeah, in the process of figuring out the right way :) .. for example this post would be approached as an opensource how to install an outdoor sink ?
Fundition shouldn't care if it's opensource or not.
It's just a campaign for them. @steemmakers could support you also as you make stuff :)
Open-source usually refers to code, programming work.
Thanks, I got used to 3d printer and other system designs being refered to as open-source, I'll have to clamp down on my use of it.
The price for our service has increased to 0.150 or 0.151 SBD, Thank you.
