The Himalayan goat

The Himalayan goat is a hardy animal found in the high mountain regions of the Himalayas, including parts of India, Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet. It is well adapted to cold climates and steep, rocky terrain. Thick fur helps it stay warm in freezing temperatures, and strong legs and hooves allow it to climb narrow mountain paths with ease.
One of the most famous Himalayan goats is the Changthangi (Pashmina) goat, known for producing pashmina wool, one of the finest and softest natural fibers in the world. This wool grows as a soft undercoat beneath the goat’s outer hair and protects it from extreme cold. People carefully collect the wool and use it to make shawls and clothing.
Himalayan goats usually feed on grass, herbs, and shrubs found in mountain areas. They play an important role in the lives of local communities by providing wool, milk, and sometimes meat. Because they are so well suited to harsh environments, Himalayan goats are a symbol of survival and adaptation in one of the world’s toughest landscapes.
