The love of God: Everyone who lives in union with Christ does not continue to sin; but whoever continues to sin has never seen him or known him. 1 John 3:6
The apostle John described in his first letter addressed to several churches in Asia Minor how the love that comes from the Holy Spirit transforms Christians, a love that transformed simple men who were witnesses of their crucified master into men capable of bearing witness to the Kingdom of God, the dominion or goverment of the divine perfections, to all the ends of the earth after the celebration of Pentecost. This love, according to the apostle, is a love that makes believers children of God and frees them from the bonds of the material world: "Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble" 1 John 2:10.
Jesus himself, when he was on earth, spoke of a second baptism, in salt and fire, and this second baptism, which causes men to be reborn from above and perceive the Kingdom of God, is the same love of God that transforms human nature with its weaknesses into a supernatural and eternal nature, this is why Jesus spoke of the spiritual gift of eternal life, the life that once obtained cannot be lost.
The spiritual love, the love directed towards all of God's work, called agape in Greek, is therefore the gateway to the gift of eternal life, and about this new spiritual life in communion with the Lord, the apostle most beloved by Jesus wrote the following words in his first letter: "Everyone who lives in union with Christ does not continue to sin; but whoever continues to sin has never seen him or known him" 1 John 3:6.
The sinful nature, that is, the inclination of the mind to fail, cannot subsist in those who know the supernatural love of the Holy Spirit; the perfect prevails over the imperfect, thus fulfilling Scripture: "Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect" Matthew 5:48. And in the thought of the apostle John, this love that translates into a new life is the sign that differentiates the children of God from the children of the world. The Kingdom of God is then based on this spiritual love, which is progressive, expansive, and which can be compared to the rays emanating from the sun, a love that can transform not only individuals but also society and the entire world, this is the true power of the Christian love.
