Good Vibes #9, great songs to help find some good vibes!

I've been thinking a lot lately about some small things that I could do every day to be a bit more positive. And I have decided that my answer has been there for me my whole life... I just didn't realize it, until now. The idea hit me and almost knocked me over!

Week #9 starts off with Last Kiss as covered by Pearl Jam!

This week I wanted to do a few songs that were some of my favorite bands doing amazing covers. Some people think that it's trashy to do covers for your shows, and if you use way too many covers... then yeah maybe, but I believe it's a way to show homage to some of the music that inspires you as a musician. So first song this week is Last Kiss done by Pearl Jam. The first I ever heard of this particular song was as a kid, when my dad played it on the acoustic. And when I heard that Pearl Jam had covered it, I was stoked! As you know I'm a 90's chick so I love those grunge bands! And now I had one playing a song that I remember from my childhood! Absolutely perfect! Not as good as my dad singing it with me, but good none the less! Even though this song bombed in the charts when Wayne Cochran first wrote it, it has been covered by a few bands since then, including Pearl Jam, who brought it to life once again.

Second song this week is Plateau as covered by Nirvana!

I hear a lot of people say that the Nirvana Unplugged was the best Unplugged that was ever done... and while I will admit that it was a great show, I (being the Alice In Chains fan that I am) have to disagree. But, like I said, it was good. And one song that I was surprised to hear on Nirvana's Unplugged, was a cover of Plateau originally done by The Meat Puppets, of whom two band members play the song along side Nirvana for the show. I've always loved this song because of the back and forth of the chords, and the eerie vocal part, which was perfect for Kurt to cover. All in all, I believe that covers are a great way to get a little head start when starting out as a new band or performer. People recognize the song and tend to listen to your performance more. I also believe that it's a great thing to do your own take on it, but don't turn it into something that doesn't even resemble what it once was. There's a balance of creativity and honoring the original that you must think of when covering a song. But most of all, just have fun! I usually try to learn covers that will challenge me in some way, whether by the vocal part or maybe because I have to learn a new chord if I want to play it. That way it's not only fun but educational as well! Haha!

So there you have my Good Vibes #9. I hope you've enjoyed the songs and maybe got a better outlook on your day from them as I have! I'm going to try and make a post every week of a few songs that give me good vibes and positive thoughts, and tag it with #goodvibesmusic! I would love to hear your thoughts and also your good vibe songs! Either post them below or make your own post and tag it! Let's spread some positive music and vibes all over Steemit! Peace!
