Google adwords account suspended - recovery?

Has anyone had success recovering a suspended Google adwords account?
Over 7 years ago my account was suspended while I was experimenting with adwords using ClickBank.
I think I became "associated" with a seller who became black listed with google because of their ClickBank activities.
Unfortunately I have never been able to get any true clarity about WHY they suspended my account, because all you can do is interact with their robots, who keep sending the same message lacking any details about the web site involved, etc.

Dear advertiser,
While reviewing your account, we found violations of our AdWords policies in this or a related account. As a result, your account has unfortunately been suspended, and your ads will no longer run on Google.

I'd love to resolve the issue if there is a way.
