Google: No Free Speech?
What Went Down?
Welp, Google got itself in a bit of a $h%tshow this week regarding a senior engineer by the name of Dr. James Damore, for the lack of a better term, attempted to vocalize his thoughts regarding the roles of both male and female engineers via a memo. In the memo, the employee attempted to answer the question regarding why men on average go for tech roles vs. women.
Throughout the 10 pages with his statements, he provided statistical and scientific data to back up his claims regarding his claims. While several people/employees attempted vocalize their feelings about why he was in the wrong while others felt he was logical with his claims and that Google is hampering free speech. Regardless, he was let go by the CEO regarding that his opinions were sexist in nature.
What I Think
As person on the outside looking in, Google may have stepped crossed a bit of a line in regards to allowing an individual the freedom to speak. However at the same time, his memo was sent within a workplace setting that is unrelated to his job description. But who cares about my opinions, what are your thoughts? I would love to here what you think.
