Upgraded the Gridcoin.US website w/ help from barton26 & peppernrino!

in #gridcoin7 years ago (edited)

The Gridcoin website has been updated!

With help from @peppernrino and @barton26, we have upgraded the official Gridcoin website.

Change log:

  • Now fully open-source, no more proprietary web UI kits. Now using the free 'Now-UI-Kit' bootstrap theme by Creative-Tim.
  • The 3 guides (pool/investor/solo) have been revamped; a lot of unnecessary info has been removed, the formatting has been improved and the navigation buttons (between the guide's steps) have been changed.
  • The index page has had a lot of the previous icons removed.
  • A lot of the in-line CSS styling has been removed, we aim to move entirely to separate CSS files in the near future to improve maintainability.
  • There is now no longer a sidebar, there is instead a button in the navbar which takes you to the footer, where all the sidebar's contents are shown.
  • Improved the content of the index.
  • Removed unnecessary pages (See 'Old Data' folder).
  • Updated the contents of the header/footers.
  • Images optimized by @peppernrino
  • Typos and HTML5 format enforcement by @Barton26
  • Various YAML Middleman improvements relating to the title metatag.
  • The email newsletter footer has been removed (newsletter was ruled out).
  • The Google translate tool has been removed from the header, if anyone was using this tool please let us know and we'll consider adding it back in.
  • More I've forgotten about probably.

Since the website is fully open source, all you need to do is fork the repo, commit your changes to your forked repo then submit a pull request (from within the pull request tab in your forked repo). The vast majority of PR's get merged, all changes are welcome :)

Very clean with good updates. Nice upgrade CM.

Well done guys, a great improvement on the website.

It looks great and seems to function better as well.

I tried it on a slower machine with a lot of windows and tabs open and it excelled.

This is awesome! I have loved Gridcoin for quite some time now and have been wanting more attention on it. The fact that Gridcoin does what other cryptos like Golem promise to do in the future just shows that we simply need to generate some buzz. Severely undervalued crypto. Serious congrats and thank you for taking so much time into revamping the site. Exciting days ahead!

Fantastic! I bet there have been lots of people who got to the previous version of the website only to be scared off by the overly complicated interface and out-of-date info. Excellent work!

Thanks, I believe intelliguy asked during a BeyondBitcoin hangout for updated guides and it encouraged this recent development. Now we just need someone to create updated video tutorials :D

Fantastic work guys! Happy to see people are putting some effort in to the community to make it easier for newcomers.

I'm impressed with the new guides, good work!

Great work guys, community lead development is the strength behind the coin

Absolutely. Just got me even more jazzed for what Gridcoin can do. :)

such a good job! xoxox

Any suggestions?

I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions for change.

Hi CM, fantastic work! Its way better than the old version and i'd like to implement some Event tracking in the next weeks to see how it can be improved :) i'll get in touch as soon as i have a bit more time. Kudos

I like the nav changes, but I think the old pages looked neater and more organized, more pleasing to the eye, easier to scan for info. Especially the features section. I cannot speak to the content changes (yet).

So my suggestion would be to reinstate the old content boxes.

Do you mean bringing back the 6 feature circle icon/logos? Or just the background colour/border?

EDIT: Raised a relevant GitHub issue: https://github.com/grctest/Gridcoin-Site/issues/42

I'd say mainly the background color/border and general grid layout feel. The icons don't hurt, or even serve to make the whole thing look friendlier, even though they're a bit random.

yes i find something , in the section step 2 .for Debian Packages (Ubuntu) i suggest to install the gridcoinresearch-qt not gridcoinresearchd.

it is
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gridcoin/gridcoin-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gridcoinresearchd
gridcoinresearchd for headless client

but we need

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gridcoin/gridcoin-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gridcoinresearch-qt
gridcoinresearch-qt

Yeah, it depends on what software you want installed - headless or qt.. I should perhaps expand on that, but then I'm not expanding on instructions for the other distros (Arch/Suse)..

Duly noted though, thanks :)

cool stuff :)
