RE: Gridcoin Follow-up Questions

in #gridcoin9 years ago (edited)

You have two ways of becoming part of Gridcoin:

  • As an investor - You will have to set up a wallet and buy some GRC from an exchange. You will then accrue 1.5% interest per annum on the sum, as well as gain/lose value depending on the GRC price fluctuations.

  • As a miner - You will need to have a wallet and BOINC running. You will be spending clock cycles of your CPU and/or GPU to do BOINC work and will in return be paid out in GRC. The payout is dependent on the size of your contribution relative to the rest of the Gridcoin team.

  • Of course, there is a third option combining mining and investing.

There is no specific computer you need, as you can 'mine' on everything from androids and R-pis to top end servers. As you would expect, the better your hardware and the more carefully you pick the projects you contribute to, the more you will earn.

Remember that the reward in contributing to BOINC is much more than the GRC payout - you are literally contributing to the bleeding edge of several research fields. I guarantee you, with total certainty, that you WILL be affected by one of the ailments being researched with BOINC at some point in your life. Maybe not directly, but definitely indirectly.
