GUIDE: How to use a snapshot to sync quickly on Windows
Good Evening everyone,
After a user on discord had issues with their wallets. I thought it would be a good idea to improve the current guide available on the wiki with visual aid. So here it is
First things first
Start downloading the Snapshot, it's a large file which is going to take a while to download for slower connections so you might as well get started.
Close your wallet if it's open.
Make sure you are able to see hidden folders. You can do so by opening the file options (File Explorer Options on Windows 10), going to the view tab and make sure Show Hidden files, Folders, and drives is selected.
You can also use the checkbox in the management section in file explorer.
Navigate to the folder that contains your wallet. To do so, open the start menu and type %appdata%, hit enter and select GridcoinResearch. The first result should be the right option but if for some reason it didn't work, navigate to c:\users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming and select GridcoinResearch.
Copy the following files and folders: wallet.dat, gridcoinreasearch.conf and the Walletbackups folder to a safe location like a USB key. You might as well make backups since you are in there.
Delete all the files in the folder except wallet.dat, Gridcoinresearch.conf and the Walletbackups folder. Also testnet if you are using it. T his is what your folder should look like.
extract the files from the zip file to a folder you can find easily. I used the download folder. Copy the files to your GridcoinResearch folder. This is what it should look like.
- Start your wallet and let it sync the last mile.
If you have other syncing issues not related to the files, you can go to the official thread on cryptotalk.
Slow sync is underrated

There is also a check box to quickly toggle visibility of hidden files/folders located on the view ribbon in File Explorer (Windows 10).
Do you mind if I add it to the guide?
Go right ahead.
I often overlook some of the newer shortcuts since I have been working with Windows for a long time and have gotten used to the classic ways of doing things. It has taken me a while to come around to the concept of ribbons in place of tool bars but this handy shortcut is one of my favorites.
Thank you for the useful guide, going to start working on this and see if everything is working by this weekend. Been using Boinc for awhile but had issues with gridcoin and just ignored it for a very long time.
@ragnarokdel Please add a screenshot of how the folder should look like after the snapshot is put in place. It can help.
will do!
