My entry for the HALLOSTEEM COSTUME CONTEST 2018 by @flamingirl
Hello everyone!
Here is my entry for the contest of @flamingirl
#hallosteem2018-costume
This scary mask was made from recycled materials and the theme or inspiration of it was the "Chuckie" character.
The materials used
- old newspapers
- old egg trays
- gawgaw
- old plastic mask for the base
- nylon string
- paint
- old ping-pong balls
- old clothes and gloves
Process
I started on cooking the gawgaw, which will be used as a paste, then I cut the old newspapers into smaller square.
After that, I started on applying gawgaw on the newspaper and completely covered the mask.
*you can see on my right side the gawgaw/the paste that I used
Next, I wet the old egg tray and mashed it into pieces.
This will be used for adding extra details in the mask
It's almost covered with mashed egg tray. I have to cover it again with newspapers to make sure that the texture of the mask is smooth.
I carefully removed it from the platic mask(the base). I used a cutter to remove the excess newspapers covering the eye part
After that, I sliced the ping-pong balls into half and put a hole
After putting the eyes, It's time to dry it under the sun to make sure that the newspapers and mashed egg tray are solid and hard enough.
Time to color it with white paint.
After painting it, I drilled some holes on the mask. This will be for the stitches part of the mask
Adding some details on the mask
Time to put the stitches
Process on the clothes
I used old jumper, long sleeve, and gloves
And it's done!
Here is the final costume

Dang, that is pretty cool. I love the step by steps from plain generic base to freaky psycho killer.... All of the masks look pretty cool.
My father-in-law builds full-sized sculptures/functional art using many of those same techniques.
Those masks are totally awesome and creepy! Definitely serve their purpose well... maybe even too well! XD
Well done and congratulations for your curie vote ^_^.
I truly hope that you win the contest! It is such a great entry and I find it a pity that you use the tag 'untalented' when you're so talented :)
The final costume is great! And I appreciate that you created it from the scratch! So cool! Others go to the shop and purchase one and you spend considerable time on creating this masterpiece. It was all worth it!
We do not celebrate Halloween and we usually even miss the day. This year it wasn't possible as there were so many stories about Halloween on Steemit :)
We are celebrating by going to a pumpkin festival. There are hundreds of illuminated pumpkins in villages and you can even get delicious pumpkin products. I like dressing up but Halloween is just not my thing.. I think it's because traditionally we don't celebrate it in a way like Americans.
Congratulations on your curie vote!

I do not know this contest, and it looks very interesting .. Your mask has been great, you see that you tried hard for this and the most interesting thing is that you used a few materials, besides it is very easy to do. It was worth all the effort because it makes you look great, a big hug @lavendero
Whoa! Very, very creepy, @lavendero.
You went to a lot of work to achieve this, too. Very meticulous from the prepping of the mask, to the stitching to the clothing and the knife. It's got the Chucky meets Halloween hockey mask thing going, definitely, with some bulging eyeballs for extra ghoulish effect!
Looks like you've done this before, many times, too, if you're recycling through old ones. That's cool that you can do that.
Well done. It was great to watch you go through the different stages. Congratulations on the curie, too.
