Hardfork and the Eighty Twenty Rule!

in #hardfork6 years ago (edited)

Do you know what the new 80%/20% rule is?

Hard Fork 20

Hard Fork 20 introduces the new concept of Resource Credits! It's a new, fair way to capture the true cost of posting, creating comments, resteeming all of it. Most of it, is, that for a while, we avoided dealing with the true cost of all these transactions. Each move uses resources, bandwidth, and server space, etc.

So, basically, HF20 now has a means for dealing with all the resources needed for transactions. Now, every account has a certain amount of RC's. Everyone has a different amount. More SP means earning more RC's. Every transaction uses, or costs a certain amount of RC's.

Here's the challenge... it's NOT like a resteem uses 1 RC, and a comment uses 4 RC, and a post uses 10.
It's relative. Relative meaning, a comment uses RC's based on how big a comment it is. A few sentences is more than 3 words. AND a few paragraphs is more than a few sentences. etc.

Long posts are more than short posts. All of that makes sense. It takes more to make a transaction of 15,000 characters vs 1000 characters. It takes more network time, more server time, etc.

20% a day, means back to full strength the next day!!!

Now, every account regenerates it's RC's used, over the course of a 5 day period. A general good rule of thumb is, only use 20% of your available Resources Credits on any given day. If you use it all up in one day, then, in 5 days, you will finally get it all back. OR, only use 20% a day. and then, you always have that energy and strength of your true SP.

Steemd Rocks!!!

A great tool to use, is at www.steemd.com/@username - and put YOUR username after the @

A decent rule of thumb, after some experimenting with this Account of 15 SP, is, about 5-10 comments a day. 1 small comment of a few words is about 3%, two-three sentences is 4% RC and a paragraph for comment is 4.5-5% of RC in a day.
A post takes about 4% to 8% of RC's depending on the amount of RC's you start with!

Oh, and as if all this isn't challenging enough to figure it out... all of this also depends on NEWTORK and BLOCKCHAIN activity also. Meaning if you make a transaction, WHEN it is busy, it costs more RC than if you make a transaction when activity is Slow!!!

What can you do to boost your RCs?

Currently - Resources credits are related to your SP. AND the only way to boost your RCs is to earn them or buy them, or to have someone delegate SP to your account.

Or, ...the slow and steady, commenting and building it all up slowly!

BTW, this post actually uses 4% of my own Resource Credits...

I hope all this helps!

This site was confusing for me to get started on and use to begin with. Now, we have an ambiguous cost to even post things. One method of helping prevent this confusion, though, would be to have some kind of indication on how much RC you will be spending when posting something(information dialog: "This post will cost 3.12 RC."). But that also doesn't help with another problem this introduces.

Smaller users have less capability to post, meaning new users have a harder time getting started on the site. Meanwhile, larger users will be able to continue growing, as they have plenty of RC to use for various activities. This kind of favoring larger creators over smaller users might kill the platform, as the user base stops growing and even dwindles, the smaller users feel betrayed due to the sudden downtime and lack of clarity on these design decisions. The whole thing has me very discouraged on the life expectancy of Steemit.
