Addison's Disease Awareness
Addison's disease is a disorder that occurs when your body produces insufficient amounts of certain hormones produced by your adrenal glands. In Addison's disease, your adrenal glands produce too little cortisol and often insufficient levels of aldosterone as well.
Also called adrenal insufficiency, Addison's disease occurs in all age groups and affects both sexes. Addison's disease can be life-threatening, it not only affects the Adrenal glands, but the pituitary glands as well ..
One way the body keeps itself in balance is by using chemical messengers called hormones to regulate various functions. Just above each of your kidneys is a small adrenal gland. These glands make hormones essential to a healthy life. When they don't make enough of these hormones, Addison's disease is the result.
Addison's disease is a rare condition. Only one in 100,000 people has it. It can happen at any age to either men or women. President John F. Kennedy had the condition.
I am only posting this because March Is Addison's Awareness month ,and not many people know about it ..
I have it ,I was diagnosed at age 3 and have been battling with the disease ever since
The main reason why I'm posting about this specific topic, isn't just about me ,it's about the others who have to live with this horrendous disease that affects every part of their daily lives..
