According to the CEO of Expecta, which publishes this barometer, this increase is due to the "sustained dynamism of the French economy" in 2017.
Executive salaries rose by 2.7% in the first half of 2018 compared to the same period last year and recorded the largest increase in six years according to the barometer published on Monday by Expectra, a subsidiary of the Randstad group. In 2016 and 2017, executive salaries had risen more than 1.7% in current euros, according to the 16th edition of this survey based on real wages, taken from more than 77,000 payslips. This is the eighth consecutive year of a rise, however, the increases were much more modest in 2013, 2014 and 2015: + 0.5%, + 0.9% and + 1.2%.

For the CEO of Expectra, Christophe Bougeard, this jump in 2018 can be explained by the "sustained dynamism of the French economy" the previous year. The boss of the temporary employment and recruitment company also notes a "marked tendency of companies to favor individual wage increases" and notes a "war of talents", especially around the digital "profiles". In detail, four occupations show increases of more than 8% in the sample studied: "webmarketing project manager" (+ 9.5%), "studies manager" (+ 8.6%), "construction engineer" (+ 8.5%) and "maintenance engineer" (+ 8.1%).

At the sector level, the increase is "very homogeneous," according to the survey's synthesis, "around 2.6%". With the exception of construction, which stands out with the highest average increase in 2018: + 4.2%. This is the "strongest change in the last five years," it said. In all sectors, the gross annual median salary of executives (the limit at which half earns more, the other less) is 44,720 euros in 2018 for the sample studied.
