Maybe some kind of virus or bacterium combined with some genetic predisposition and some or all of the above was involved.
How long did it take to make the connection between h. pylori and stomach ulcers? modern medicine might be good, but not good enought imo
Great point - there may well have been some infectious component - the microbiome may also be another component that could be a possibility .
Great example with H. pylori - even when it was discovered many people refused to acknowledge it as the cause of the ulcers because the prevous beliefs were so strong.
