Saffron/Zafran also known as Crocus Sativus a gold as food due to its amazing benefits , is a very popular and a very expensive spice. Its taste makes it great for usage in food, a refreshment and even for making beverages. Saffron unique color, flavor, and other properties give it culinary and medicinal characteristics that make it renowned all over the world.It belongs to the Iridaceae family and is a native of the South regions.

Health Benefits of Saffron:

It prevent and protect from diseases and promote the overall health of the body.
The plant part from which saffron is obtained contains essential but volatile oils which when added to food, imparts its unique flavor and benefits of saffron as a spice. Some of these oils are cineole, pinene, borneol, geraniol, etc.
It is used in various types of therapies like body healing, detoxification and also in the spices.
It is antidepressant could be prescribed to stressed patients.
Saffron is digestive and an anticonvulsant.
Good for treatment of heart diseases and blood pressure.
It helps to produce red and white blood cell.

Side effects:

Saffron is POSSIBLY SAFE for most people when taken by mouth as a medicine for up to 6 weeks. But some possible side effects include dry mouth, anxiety, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, change in appetite, and headache. Allergic reactions can occur in some people.

Taking large amounts of saffron by mouth is POSSIBLY UNSAFE. High doses can cause food poison , including yellow appearance of the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes; vomiting; dizziness; can be bloody diarrhea; bleeding from the nose,rectal, lips, and eyelids; numbness; and other serious side effects. Doses of 12-20 grams can cause death.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Taking saffron by mouth in amounts larger than what is normally found in food is LIKELY UNSAFE. Larger amounts of saffron can make the uterus contract and might cause a miscarriage.

also Not enough is known about the safety of using saffron during breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.

The active components present in saffron have many therapeutic applications in many traditional medicines since long time ago as anti-spasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic. Research studies have shown that, safranal, a volatile oil found in the spice, has antioxidant, cytotoxicity towards cancer cells, anticonvulsant and antidepressant properties. Αlfa-crocin, a carotenoid compound, which gives the spice its characteristic golden-yellow color, has been anti-oxidant, anti-depressant, and anti-cancer properties.

efficacy of turmeric is very good for our body ... in my country (indonesia) turmeric is used to add spice seasoning on the dish as well as food coloring.
can also be made as an anti-biotic body for him like a traditional Indonesian drink "herbal medicine", an example of a drink with a base of turmeric added added brown sugar with the name "turmeric asem". that's one example of traditional Indonesian drinks.

Saffron is very important for Men’s health.
In early days people use this spicy ingredients in their regular meal. These days its cost is not affordable in our country. But it is very amazing food to take it. I love to get a packet from somewhere hahahah.

As with any drug, dose-dependent toxicity is always a concern. As a spice it is, it is not meant to be taken in huge amounts. Otherwise, its consumption should not be a problem at all unless there's a known allergy to the spice, in which case a specialized medical evaluation is indicated to rule out any other cross-allergy.

Without getting in deep with molecular mechanisms, which I guess are not really known, most of its effects and cultural uses (asthma treatment, depression treatment, Alzheimer's treatment) must related to some sort of anti-inflammatory action. Interesting indeed.
